The eThekwini municipality has officially stopped hiring private companies

The eThekwini municipality has officially stopped hiring private companies for water trucks and has bought its own fleet instead. Local authorities announced that they will have a massive 361 municipal water tankers fully running to service local communities by the end of this year.

This big shift comes after years of complaints from residents about water shortages and corruption linked to private truck contracts. By taking total control of the service, the city is reportedly aiming to save millions of rands and make sure that areas without water get reliable deliveries.
Officials claim that owning the fleet will make it much easier to manage daily water distributions directly. The new trucks are allegedly being deployed immediately to high-risk neighborhoods that are currently struggling with dry taps
