πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦ Fuel prices set for another major increase in October

South African motorists are facing another sharp increase in fuel prices, with the latest Central Energy Fund (CEF) data indicating that petrol could approach R30 per litre and diesel could move above R33 per litre inland.
The September fuel adjustment already pushed inland petrol to R26.76 per litre for 93 and R26.92 for 95. Wholesale 50ppm diesel reached R30.05 per litre.
As of 29 September, CEF-based projections indicate that if the current under-recoveries carry through to the end of the month, October prices could reach approximately:
⛽ 93 Petrol: R29.58/L
⛽ 95 Petrol: R29.92/L
πŸš› 50ppm Diesel: R33.04/L
πŸš› 500ppm Diesel: around R31.80/L
These figures are projections, not final prices. The official adjustment is expected to take effect on 7 October 2026, and the final numbers can still change before then.
The increase is being driven largely by higher international petroleum prices and the rand/dollar exchange rate, which feed into South Africa's monthly fuel-price calculation.
For diesel motorists, the situation is particularly significant: 50ppm diesel is currently around R30.05/L on the inland wholesale schedule, and the latest projections put it above R33/L in October. Actual retail diesel prices can be higher because diesel is not subject to the same regulated retail-price system as petrol.
Motorists are therefore being warned to prepare for one of the biggest fuel-price increases of 2026.
