THOKOZA EAST SHUTDOWN MARCH UNDERWAY TODAY
EK FM 103.6 NEWSROOM :
Large crowds of residents have gathered across parts of Thokoza East in Ekurhuleni today as a community-led shutdown march continues to gain momentum throughout the township.
According to reports circulating from the ground this morning, groups linked to the “March and March” movement are demanding the removal of undocumented foreign nationals from the area. Residents have been seen marching through several sections of Thokoza, with some roads and daily activities reportedly disrupted as the protest continues.
Community members online have described the situation by saying, “Thokoza iphume yonke namuhla,” referring to the large turnout witnessed across the township today.
The “March and March” movement has recently been associated with anti-illegal immigration demonstrations in various parts of Gauteng, where concerns over jobs, crime, housing and public services have been raised during community protests.
At this stage, no full official statement has yet been released confirming all developments on the ground, however law enforcement and metro police presence has reportedly been noticed in affected areas as the situation continues to unfold.
