Middelburg Businessman Kidnapped by Fake Police Officers

 


A shocking incident unfolded in Middelburg, Mpumalanga on 25 May 2026, when a businessman was kidnapped, assaulted, and robbed by suspects posing as police officers.

The attack happened around 09:00 at business premises in Slegtkamp Street.
- Suspects, wearing partial police uniforms, forced the victim into the boot of a white VW Polo with no plates and fled with his charcoal BMW 3 Series.
- The businessman was assaulted and forced to call his wife to transfer R40 000 via EFT.
- Using his keys, the suspects later ransacked his home and stole valuables.
🚨 Police & Security Response
- A large‑scale search was launched involving SAPS, Aiguille Security, Mortelmans Security Services, and N17 Emergency Response.
- The victim’s BMW was found abandoned near Black Wattle mine, while the injured businessman was later located in Phola.
- The suspects fled on foot moments before authorities arrived.
- The VW Polo was recovered with a dummy firearm and police cap, and confirmed to be stolen.
- The victim received medical treatment and was transferred to Life Midmed Hospital.
