JUST SAY NO TO ALCOHOL
In South Africa, police officers are generally not allowed to be drunk on duty. Being intoxicated while performing their duties can be considered misconduct and may lead to disciplinary action, including dismissal. The Labour Relations Act mandates a progressive discipline approach, often starting with warnings for minor offenses. If an officer is found to be drunk on duty, the employer must follow a clear policy and conduct a thorough investigation, which may include testing the officer's blood alcohol level.
