CASE AGAINST CRIME INTELLIGENCE HEAD POSTPONED FOR OUTCOME OF REPRESENTATIONS
The Pretoria Magistrates’ Court postponed the case against Crime Intelligence Head, Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo and six others, to 03 September 2026, for the outcome of representations.
Khumalo, together with five other accused filed representations with the office of the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) during the week the matter was scheduled to be transferred to a higher court for trial.
They are facing charges of fraud and corruption, relating to the appointment of an unqualified civilian within the Crime Intelligence Division of the South African Police Service (SAPS). Investigations have been completed and the NPA’s IDAC is ready to ventilate the matter in a trial court.

Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, the head of Crime Intelligence, has been embroiled in a high-profile corruption case. He and six other senior police officials were arrested in June 2025, accused of fraud and corruption related to the irregular appointment of a civilian to a senior post within Crime Intelligence. The case has led to a legal battle over bail conditions, with Khumalo and his co-accused seeking to have their bail conditions relaxed to allow them to return to work. The case has been postponed multiple times, with the next hearing scheduled for 3 September 2026. The case has drawn significant attention and is seen as a critical step in addressing corruption within the South African Police Service (SAPS).
