 Captain Laurence Makgotloe of the SAPS Forensic Science Lab was arrested on May 22, 2026, and is expected to appear in court on Monday, June 2, 2026, for a formal bail application related to serious charges.

The arrest occurred at the captain's residence in Pretoria. The arrest is linked to allegations of defeating the ends of justice in several high-profile murder cases currently under investigation and evidence before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
During the operation, the team seized several items belonging to the state, including ballistic reports, several rounds of ammunition, and other evidential material relevant to investigations.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

The Captain faces three serious charges, including defeating the ends of justice, being an accessory after the fact, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

He is currently under arrest and remains in custody.

Investigations continue.
