A Grade 12 learner has been arrested after an East Rand teenager was found stabbed to death in her school uniform
The arrest of an 18-year-old Grade 12 learner from Ingqayizivele Secondary School in Thembisa has been confirmed following the murder of a fellow student, 17-year-old Lethabo Maroga. The incident occurred on April 24, 2025, when Maroga's body was found stabbed to death in her school uniform. The investigation led to the arrest of the suspect, who is expected to appear in the Thembisa Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder. The Thembisa SAPS station commander has commended the officers for their dedication in gathering information that led to the arrest. The community is urged to remain calm and allow the justice system to take its course, while the suspect is removed from the community through hefty sentences.

 Tuesday 5 May 2026 #WANTED The #HAWKS members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation are seeking information on the whereabouts of Gugu Maria Zikalala (55), who is wanted in connection with a fraud case. In March 2015, Zikalala is alleged to have submitted a false affidavit to the Master of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, falsely claiming she was eligible for appointment as executor of the estate of the late Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu and falsely claiming to be her biological mother. Zikalala also submitted a death certificate for the late Thulani Michael Ndlovu, the biological father of Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu. Her application sought access to the minor’s guardian funds, amounting R243 983.09. The Hawks are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Gugu Maria Zikalala.
