BREAKING NEWS | JOHANNESBURG, GAUTENG - A City Power technician has died after being electrocuted while responding to infrastructure work in Crown Mines.
According to City Power, the technician was on duty and walking toward a transformer switching station on Planet Avenue when he allegedly came into contact with an illegally connected electrical cable. The cable reportedly sparked, fatally injuring him and causing a power outage in the area.City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the incident highlights the dangers posed by illegal electricity connections, which continue to endanger workers and communities.
Technical operations at the scene were temporarily suspended while investigators secured and assessed the site.
The utility has extended condolences to the technician’s family, colleagues, and loved ones.
Authorities have again warned against tampering with electrical infrastructure, stressing that illegal connections can have fatal consequences.
