25-year-old man to life imprisonment following the horrific rape of his 46-year-old mother

The Bothaville Regional Court has sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment following the horrific rape of his 46-year-old mother.
The incident occurred on 22 December 2024 in Kgotsong, Bothaville in the Free State. The victim visited her elders' home to introduce her new partner to the family.
However, a physical altercation ensued when her son confronted and chased the boyfriend away from the premises.
The victim followed her partner as he left, but was pursued by her son. He caught up with her, threw her to the ground, and raped her. Following the attack, the suspect further traumatized the victim by threatening her with violence should she report the matter to anyone.
Despite the threats, a case of rape was opened and the 25-year-old suspect was apprehended. The investigation was spearheaded by Sergeant Lehlohonolo Fonya of the Welkom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit.
The meticulous investigative work of Sergeant Fonya, combined with the expert prosecution of Prosecutor Tshegofatso Lebitsa, led to a successful conviction and the Bothaville Regional Court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment for rape.
SAPS continues to urge victims of sexual violence to come forward and report these crimes, regardless of the relationship between the victim and the perpetrator.

 Tuesday 5 May 2026 #WANTED The #HAWKS members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation are seeking information on the whereabouts of Gugu Maria Zikalala (55), who is wanted in connection with a fraud case. In March 2015, Zikalala is alleged to have submitted a false affidavit to the Master of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, falsely claiming she was eligible for appointment as executor of the estate of the late Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu and falsely claiming to be her biological mother. Zikalala also submitted a death certificate for the late Thulani Michael Ndlovu, the biological father of Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu.
