Petrol prices are projected to increase by R1.80 to R2.20 per litre in June 2026, following a significant hike due to geopolitical conflicts and the reintroduction of fuel taxes.

The Central Energy Fund indicates an under-recovery of petrol prices, which will be offset by the reintroduction of fuel taxes in June.

Overall, the outlook for petrol prices in South Africa is negative, with expectations of a price increase in the near future.

The South African government has not ended the fuel relief measures. Instead, they have extended temporary reductions in the general fuel levy, with the relief set to last until June 2, 2026. This includes a reduction in the fuel levy for petrol and diesel, which will be phased out gradually starting in July. The government is currently working on further measures to address rising fuel prices, indicating that relief is still being provided to households and businesses.

 Tuesday 5 May 2026 #WANTED The #HAWKS members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation are seeking information on the whereabouts of Gugu Maria Zikalala (55), who is wanted in connection with a fraud case. In March 2015, Zikalala is alleged to have submitted a false affidavit to the Master of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, falsely claiming she was eligible for appointment as executor of the estate of the late Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu and falsely claiming to be her biological mother. Zikalala also submitted a death certificate for the late Thulani Michael Ndlovu, the biological father of Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu. Her application sought access to the minor’s guardian funds, amounting R243 983.09. The Hawks are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Gugu Maria Zikalala.
