Thulani Mathuka (27) sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for rape

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in North West, Maj Gen (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has welcomed the successful conviction and #sentencing of an accused who was found guilty of rape and sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment by the court.
Thulani Mathuka (27) was convicted following thorough investigations and the presentation of compelling evidence, which ultimately led the court to hand down a custodial sentence.
The incident occurred on Monday, 30 December 2024, at approximately 21:55.
It was reported that the victim (41), was walking home after visiting a local tavern when she was approached by the accused. He dragged her to a shack and raped her.
Thulani was arrested on Tuesday, 31 December 2024, and charged with rape.
On Tuesday,14 April 2026, he appeared before the Koster Regional Court and was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years' direct imprisonment.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the investigating officer, Detective Constable Beauty Mogapi of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, the prosecution team, and all role players involved in ensuring that justice is served.
The South African Police Service in North West continues to prioritise the fight against Gender-based violence and femicide.
