This relief is set to continue until May 5, 2026

The South African government has announced the extension of fuel levy relief for motorists, which includes a temporary reduction of R3 per litre in the general fuel price levy.
This relief is set to continue until May 5, 2026, with an increase in support for diesel from R3 to R3.93 per litre. However, the relief will be halved in June and completely phased out in July.
The estimated cost of this temporary relief is R17.2 billion in foregone tax revenue.
The government aims to balance the socio-economic impact on consumers with fiscal objectives, ensuring that the relief is revenue neutral and funded through higher-than-expected tax revenue and underspending.
