The police have arrested a 23-year-old male for the alleged murder of his 30-year-old female next-door neighbour in Mmametlake, Mpumalanga Province, on Tuesday 21 April 2026. The half-naked body of the victim was found in the bush, on Monday 20 April 2026, by local women collecting firewood, who then alerted the members of local Community Policing Forum.
The victim who was found with bruises on the body was certified dead on the scene.
With the help of the local community, the police arrested the suspect who is reported to be the next-door neighbour of the victim. He is expected to appear at Marapyane Periodical court on Wednesday 2026-04-22, facing a charge of murder. More charges might be added, pending the investigation.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the police in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi strongly condemned this act of violence against women and commended the community of Mmametlake for not taking the law into their own hands, instead, collaborated with the police in ensuring that the suspect, who is within the community, is arrested.
"Cases of gender-based-violence and femicide remains top in our priorities in the province. This case will be treated with urgency and we will do everything in our power to ensure that the suspect is convicted", said Major General (Dr) Mkhwanazi.
