Recently the Calvinia Regional Court, sentenced Ragel Blaauw, a 31-year-old female, to 20 years imprisonment of which 5 years was suspended.
The accused was also declared unfit to posses a firearm.
During the morning of 21 December 2024, Ragel the accused and the deceased returned from the sports bar and an argument over money ensued which led to a physical altercation between the two.
The accused fatally stabbed the deceased with a knife in the chest.
In an unrelated case ,the same court handed down a 20 year sentence to 50-year-old Henriekka Moos, of which 5 years was suspended for murder. The accused was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The conviction follows an incident on 5 March 2025 at approximately 17:00 when the deceased was at home drinking homemade brew with a friend when his wife Henriekka, the accused came home.
She was under the influence of alcohol and started swearing at the deceased.
She took a knife and stabbed the deceased in the chest and he succumbed to his injuries.
Detective Sergeant Maria De Wee was assigned the case docket and commended by the Namakwa District Commissioner, Brigadier Schalk Andrews for the sterling investigation and ensuring justice to both families. Detectives in the Namakwa District will strengthen and re-enforce their efforts in serving justice for victims of GBVF crimes.
