Bellville police seek volunteers for victim-support programme.

Bellville police have launched a recruitment drive for volunteers to join its Victim Empowerment Programme, which offers community members the chance to provide crucial support to crime victims and vulnerable individuals.

They seek dedicated volunteers to counsel and assist people who have been traumatised by crime, substance abuse, domestic violence, gender-based violence and homelessness. No formal qualifications are required, making the opportunity accessible to anyone with a genuine desire to help others.

Sgt Charles Neelse, Social Crime Prevention Coordinator at Bellville Police Station, explained that comprehensive training would be provided to all new volunteers. “We’re looking for people who are motivated to make a difference in their community.”

Volunteers will work alongside established partners including the community-policing forum, Mosaic, Safe Space and the Thuthuzela Care Centre. The programme also involves public-outreach activities, giving volunteers the opportunity to engage directly with the community on prevention initiatives.

VEP coordinator Elizma Viljoen emphasised the valuable experience volunteers gain whie serving their community. The programme offers participants the chance to develop skills in victim support and crisis intervention while making a meaningful contribution to public safety.

How to apply
Interested volunteers should indicate any prior experience in related work and explain their motivation for joining the programme. Previous experience is not essential, as full training will be provided.

Those wishing to apply can email bellvillecomm@saps.gov.za or contact Neelse via WhatsApp on 082 301 7661.

The Bellville Police Station is located in Voortrekker Road.
