A standard 42-gallon barrel of crude oil produces roughly 19–20 gallons of gasoline, along with diesel, jet fuel, and other petroleum products.
Breakdown of Products
When a barrel of crude oil is refined, it is separated into various products through fractional distillation and other refining processes. On average, the output from one 42-gallon (159 liters) barrel includes:
Gasoline: About 19–20 gallons (45–48% of the barrel) used for cars and light vehicles.

Diesel and heating oil: Approximately 10–11 gallons (25–26%) for trucks, buses, and heating.

Jet fuel (kerosene-type): Around 4–5 gallons (9–10%) for aviation.

Asphalt and road oil: Roughly 1–2 gallons (3%) for paving roads.

Lubricants: About 0.5 gallons (1%) for greases and industrial oils.

Other products: Includes petrochemical feedstocks, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and residual fuel oils, making up the remaining 5–6%.

Due to processing gain, the total volume of refined products slightly exceeds the original 42 gallons, often reaching around 44–45 gallons of finished products.

Refining Process
Crude oil is a mixture of hydrocarbons that must be refined to produce usable products. The main steps include:
Distillation: Heating crude oil to separate components by boiling points.
Cracking: Breaking large hydrocarbon molecules into smaller ones to increase gasoline and diesel yields.
Reforming: Converting low-quality fractions into high-octane gasoline.
Blending: Mixing different fractions to meet fuel specifications.

Summary
A single barrel of crude oil is a versatile source of energy and materials. While gasoline is the largest product, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt, lubricants, and petrochemical feedstocks are also significant outputs. The exact proportions can vary depending on the type of crude oil and the refining technology used.
