South Africa’s Paramount Marauder is gaining global attention as demand grows for the country’s formidable mine-protected armoured vehicle.
Designed and manufactured by South African defence company Paramount Group, the Marauder is built for extreme environments, combining high mobility, blast protection and modular military capabilities. The armoured monster can reach speeds of up to around 110 km/h and has a road range of approximately 700 kilometres. Its modular design allows it to be configured for different military roles, including troop transport and weapons platforms.
The Marauder uses a double-skinned, V-shaped hull designed to redirect blast forces away from occupants. Its protection and rugged construction have made it particularly attractive to military and peacekeeping forces operating in challenging environments. The vehicle can accommodate a crew of two and approximately eight to ten fully equipped personnel, while its substantial payload capacity allows for the integration of specialised military equipment. Its international profile was further boosted after appearing on BBC’s Top Gear, where its ability to smash through obstacles and withstand explosive forces showcased its extreme durability to a global audience. With variants and local-production partnerships expanding its international reach, the South African-built Marauder has become one of the country’s most recognisable defence exports — turning a homegrown armoured monster into a vehicle attracting attention from military customers around the world.
