π¨πΏπ¦ REIGER PARK SHOOTING ACCUSED APPEARS IN COURT, ALLEGES BRUTAL ASSAULT IN POLICE CUSTODY
Twenty-four-year-old Jamal Meyer appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday facing serious charges, including murder, attempted murder, robbery, and the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Meyer and 23-year-old Cheslyn Collis have been linked by the State to a fatal shooting in Reiger Park earlier this month. The two Anti-Gang Unit officers were reportedly responding to reports of gunfire when they came under attack.
The victims have been identified as Constable Tlomatsane, Constable Sibeko, Roleen Lessing and Jayden Magerman. The State further alleges that Meyer and Collis attempted to murder another person during the incident and robbed the two deceased police officers of their service rifles.
During Tuesday’s court proceedings, Meyer’s lawyer, Samkele Kuzani, told the court that his client had allegedly been “brutally assaulted” while in police custody. Following the allegations, the court ordered that Meyer be detained in the medical wing of Boksburg Prison so that he could receive medical attention.
Collis remains in custody at Modderbee Prison due to security concerns.
Both accused are expected to return to the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 25 August 2026 for a formal bail application. The allegations against the two men have not yet been proven in court, and the State will still have to present its case.
The case has attracted significant attention as investigators continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the Reiger Park shootings and the deaths of the two police officers and two women.
