WESTERN CAPE HIGH COURT SENTENCES CERES PAEDOPHILE TO FIVE LIFE TERMS AND 78 YEARS


 Western Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General (Adv) Thembisile Patekile lauds Ceres FCS detective Warrant Officer Anthony Rooy for his relentless pursuit of justice in the case of Leano Vergotine.

Vergotine committed a series of gruesome sexual offences between July and September 2022. He raped and filmed two boys aged nine and 14 as well as a 16-year-old girl whom he physically assaulted during the act.
An 18-year-old female victim also opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm against him.
He was arrested and charged on five counts of rape, two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, child pornography, grooming and contravention of the Film and Publication Act.
While handing down the sentence, the presiding officer declared the 42-year-old dangerous and a paedophile. He was sentenced to five life terms and an additional 78 years in prison without a possibility of a parole. #Sentencing #EndGBVF
