Today marks one year since Chanelle Plaatjies' body was found

Today marks one year since Chanelle Plaatjies' body was found, bringing a heartbreaking end to weeks of searching and uncertainty for her family.

Chanelle was last seen on 14 May 2025. She was only reported missing two weeks later, on 28 May. In the days that followed, her family and members of the Paarl East community came together in a desperate effort to find her.
On 2 June 2025, that search ended in tragedy.
Near a dam, a shallow grave was discovered. DNA results later confirmed that the remains were Chanelle's.
She was only 16 years old.
For her loved ones, the discovery brought answers, but also unimaginable grief.
One year later, the fight for justice continues. The pre-trial conference in her murder case began in the Western Cape High Court on 15 May 2026 and is scheduled to continue on 21 August 2026.
Chanelle was more than a name in a court case. She was a daughter, a family member, a friend, and a girl whose life mattered.
Today we remember Chanelle, stand with those who continue to mourn her loss, and renew the call for justice to be served.
