STEPFATHER SENTENCED TO TWO LIFE TERMS FOR HISTORIC RAPES OF A MINOR
Free State Police welcomes the hefty sentence handed down by the Bothaville Regional Court to a 34-year-old man who brutally abused his position of trust by raping his minor stepdaughter.
The long arm of the law finally caught up with the perpetrator after a dramatic turn of events. The accused walked into Bothaville police station and handed himself over, confessing to officers that he had raped someone. He detailed his actions and subsequently led the police to his residence, where authorities found the now 17-year-old female victim.
Upon being interviewed, the young victim bravely confirmed that the heinous assaults had indeed taken place during her childhood, specifically in 2017 and 2018 while she was a primary school learner.
In the first incident in 2017, the victim recalled coming home from school to find her stepfather with friends. When she retreated to her bedroom to change out of her school uniform, the suspect followed her, forced her onto the bed, and raped her. He then used cruel manipulation, threatening to evict both her and her mother from his home if she spoke out.
The abuse was repeated in 2018 under similar circumstances when the stepfather caught her alone after school. Once again, he weaponized the threat of homelessness to silence her.
Following the victim's confirmation, a case was officially opened, and the suspect was arrested on the spot. The docket was assigned to Constable Malearongwa Mokoena from Welkom Family violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, who meticulously investigated the case and gathered evidence.
Working closely with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), represented by State Prosecutor Mrs Lebitsa, the team successfully secured a watertight conviction against the accused.
On Friday, 29 May 2026, justice was served. The Bothaville Regional Court found the 34-year-old stepfather guilty on two counts of rape and sentenced him to Life Imprisonment on each count.
This outcome sends a clear message to all perpetrators of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) that they will face the harshest realities of the law, no matter how much time has passed. #Sentencing #EndGBVF #SouthAfricaNews
