LIMPOPO PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER ORDERS IMMEDIATE MANHUNT FOLLOWING ALLEGED RAPE AND MURDER OF A TWO-YEAR-OLD BOY IN BOTLOKWA

The police in Limpopo have launched an intensive investigation into a case of murder following the tragic death of a two-year-old boy from Maphosa Village in the Botlokwa policing area under the Capricorn District.

It is alleged that the child was taken to Ga-Makgato Clinic on 30 May 2026 after experiencing severe abdominal pain and diarrhoea. Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was subsequently transferred to Botlokwa Hospital for further medical treatment.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the child sadly succumbed to his injuries. Medical examinations conducted by the attending doctor allegedly revealed indications that the child had been sexually assaulted.
The matter was reported to the police by hospital personnel on Monday, 01 June 2026, and a murder case was immediately opened for investigation. The suspect remains unknown at this stage.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has once again raised her concern about the safety of children in the province.
“This is a deeply disturbing and heartbreaking incident involving an innocent and vulnerable child. We strongly condemn this senseless act and have mobilised our investigative resources to ensure that the perpetrator is swiftly identified, traced, and brought to justice. We appeal to community members who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Further investigations are ongoing, including a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Detective Sergeant Takalani Mulaudzi, on 082 684 9706, the #CrimeStop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or submit information via the #MySAPSApp.
