Warren Plaatjies (31) was sentenced to one year imprisonment for a Gender-Based Violence

Warren Plaatjies (31) was sentenced to one year imprisonment for a Gender-Based Violence and Femicide-related crime, after he assaulted a 25-year-old victim in Niekerkshoop.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 07 March 2026, at 15:00, when the victim was physically assaulted by the accused on several occasions.
The victim, armed with a Protection Order, reported the incident to the police.
The accused subsequently fled and was arrested days after the incident for contravention of a Protection Order and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
On Thursday, 07 May 2026, the Griekwastad Regional Court convicted and sentenced Plaatjies to one year imprisonment, and he was declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Pixley Ka Seme District Police Management commended Detective Constable Emily Swartz of the Niekerkshoop Detectives for her meticulous investigative work that led to justice being served for the victim.

 Tuesday 5 May 2026 #WANTED The #HAWKS members from Pietermaritzburg Serious Commercial Crime Investigation are seeking information on the whereabouts of Gugu Maria Zikalala (55), who is wanted in connection with a fraud case. In March 2015, Zikalala is alleged to have submitted a false affidavit to the Master of the High Court in Pietermaritzburg, falsely claiming she was eligible for appointment as executor of the estate of the late Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu and falsely claiming to be her biological mother. Zikalala also submitted a death certificate for the late Thulani Michael Ndlovu, the biological father of Nqobile Minenhle Ndlovu. Her application sought access to the minor’s guardian funds, amounting R243 983.09. The Hawks are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Gugu Maria Zikalala.
