 UPDATE :

WHAT IS CONFIRMED SO FAR:
• Dina Marais (73) and Ernst Marais (71) were reported missing after failing to return to their accommodation
• They entered Kruger National Park on Sunday, 17 May
• They were last seen alive on Wednesday morning at the Pafuri picnic site
• Their bodies were later discovered in a river inside the park with multiple stab wounds
• Limpopo police have launched a full-scale investigation and manhunt
🚨 NEW DEVELOPMENT:
Kruger National Park spokesperson Reynold Thakhuli confirmed that the couple’s bakkie exited the park through the fence line and was tracked crossing into Mozambique, based on tyre marks found at the scene.
Authorities say the vehicle has not yet been recovered.
INVESTIGATION STATUS:
• SANParks launched a 24-hour search after the couple failed to return
• Their Hoedspruit estate property was checked and found empty
• Police are now considering possible hijacking among the working theories
• Forensic teams are actively processing the crime scene
This tragic case has raised serious concerns about security in and around one of South Africa’s most visited national parks, especially along border-adjacent routes.
