#sentencing of two rape accused

 Tuesday 5 May 2026

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, has welcomed the #sentencing of two rape accused and commended members of the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Units in Vryburg and Lichtenburg, for their dedication and resilience in ensuring that justice is served for victims of Gender Based Violence (GBV).
In the first matter, on Thursday, 23 April 2026, the Ganyesa Regional Court sentenced 30-year-old Kgositsile Oneboy Mokale, to eight (😎 years direct imprisonment for rape.
The conviction follows an incident that occurred on Friday, 07 February 2020 in Ganyesa, where a 19-year-old victim was at her residence with the accused. It is reported that as the victim prepared to sleep, the accused expressed his feelings towards her. When she did not reciprocate, he threatened her, forcefully dragged her to the passage inside the house, and raped her.
The matter was reported at Ganyesa Police Station and assigned to Sergeant Mogakolode Edwin Molelekwa, of the Vryburg FCS Unit. Through a thorough and victim-centred investigation, the investigating officer ensured that the accused was brought before court and ultimately convicted.
In a separate matter, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026, the Coligny Regional Court sentenced Kamogelo Mokgothu (29) to life imprisonment for rape and an additional five (5) years imprisonment for kidnapping.
This conviction emanates from an incident that occurred on Sunday, 28 May 2017, at approximately 00:35, in Coligny. A 25-year-old victim was at a local club with friends, when Mokgothu grabbed her and demanded that she leave with him. Upon refusing and indicating that she was with her boyfriend, she was forcibly dragged into the street.
It is further reported that another individual confronted her, accused her boyfriend of assault, and threatened her. The victim was then assaulted, dragged to a nearby open ground and forced into a shack, where she was raped.
The case was investigated by Captain Serapelo Motone of the Lichtenburg FCS Unit, whose persistence and commitment culminated in the successful conviction and sentencing.
Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo applauded the investigating officers and prosecution for their unwavering commitment to combating Gender Based Violence. He emphasised that these sentences serve as a stern warning to perpetrators that such crimes will not go unpunished and said the South African Police Service remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of society and ensuring that justice prevails.
