Sri Lanka Monks Arrested with 110 Kgs of Cannabis
The arrest of 22 Buddhist monks at the Colombo airport was a significant incident in Sri Lanka's drug enforcement efforts. The group, returning from a four-day trip to Thailand, was found with 110kg of cannabis concealed in their luggage. Each monk was reportedly carrying approximately 5kg of Kush, a potent strain of cannabis. The cannabis packages were hidden among school supplies and sweets, and the group was reportedly told that the parcels were a "donation" and that a vehicle would collect them after arrival.
The case has raised questions about the organization behind the operation and the role of an outside sponsor who funded the trip. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are looking into the full network behind the operation.
