MEDIA STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
21 APRIL 2026
FRAUDULENT JMPD LEARNERSHIP ADVERTISEMENT
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has been made aware of a fraudulent advertisement circulating on various social media platforms, including TikTok and Facebook, claiming that applications for the 2026 Metro Police & Traffic Learnership Programme are now open.
We wish to categorically state that this advertisement is fake and did not originate from the City of Johannesburg or the JMPD.
To prevent further misinformation, the JMPD clarifies that there are currently no open positions for the JMPD.
While the JMPD did advertise for positions last year, the recruitment process was officially halted due to necessary internal administrative procedures.
The JMPD does not use third-party websites (such as ".xyz" or ".co.za
" domains) or WhatsApp numbers to facilitate applications. All legitimate vacancies are advertised through the official City of Johannesburg website.
The public is urged to exercise extreme caution. These fraudulent posts are designed to exploit job seekers and may be used to solicit bribes or steal personal information.
The JMPD will never ask for a fee or "processing payment" at any stage of the recruitment process.
We advise the community to disregard the QR codes and links provided in these social media posts. For verified information regarding City of Johannesburg opportunities, please visit the official website at www.joburg.org.za.
